Stass Shpanin is a visual artist whose work is focused on interpretations and fabrications of the past. His work ranges from monumental paintings and drawings to immersive installations embracing institutional critique. Shpanin completed his MFA in painting from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University. In 2012, he received a Fulbright Fellowship award to Russia, where he continued his visual research. Shpanin’s artworks have been shown internationally, and venues include Smack Mellon Gallery in New York, ToBE Gallery in Bern, Switzerland, Gridchinhall Gallery in Moscow, Five Points Gallery in Torrington, Connecticut, Temple Contemporary in Philadelphia, Delaware Contemporary Museum in Wilmington, Phillips Museum of Art in Lancaster, and Plato Gallery in New York, among others.
Shpanin’s art studio is based in Philadelphia, and he is an Associate Teaching Professor of Art at the Department of Visual, Media, and Performing Arts at Rutgers University–Camden.
